Tunisia has announced the Bazma–Kebili solar project (300 MW PV + 150 MW / 540 MWh BESS), one of the largest solar IPP projects in North Africa, targeting international developers and investors.

Project structure and timeline

The project follows a concession-based IPP model with long-term PPA.

Key facts:

  • 300 MW solar PV plant
  • 150 MW / 540 MWh battery storage
  • Location: Kebili region

Deadlines:

  • Registration: May 8, 2026
  • Bid submission: October 14, 2026

Participation requires prior registration.

Part of a national expansion program

The tender is part of a broader program of approx. 2.35 GW new capacity.

Targets:

  • 30–35% renewables by 2030
  • up to 50% by 2035

The TEREG program (World Bank, USD 430 million) supports up to 2.8 GW and mobilizes private investment.

Opportunities for developers

In addition to large IPPs:

  • 287 MW in smaller projects (1–10 MW)
  • opportunities with commercial and industrial off-takers

Tunisia is positioning itself as a growing market for bankable renewable energy projects.

DFIC perspective

The project highlights:

  • increasing relevance of BESS
  • stable IPP framework
  • strong political support for renewables
